Letter of Appreciation by Congressman J. Sarbanes

John Sarbanes
Dear Director Ensor:

With George Bistis' retirement from Voice of America, the old adage that all good things
must come to an end is certainly fitting. George has been a tireless journalist who has never
wavered in his commitment to promote democracy and individual liberty. More than a journalist,
George has been an exemplary civil servant, believing deeply in the mission of the Voice of
America.

For decades, George built bridges between the people of America and his native Greece,
and always with an eye towards promoting understanding of the two countries he loves so dearly.
With George’s retirement, we are reminded that there are people who make a difference. George
has made a difference throughout his entire career. His reporting, his enthusiasm, and his good
nature will be sorely missed.

George leaves behind a worthy legacy. We salute him and the Voice of America for the
many good years of reporting on matters of concern to Americans and our friends allies in
Greece.

Sincerely,

John P. Sarbanes
